On Monday, I had the pleasure of being a guest speaker at a Bay Village book club. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting host, Barbara and the club members. A couple of them are Lake Erie boaters. They are an enthusiastic and fun group. They asked first-rate questions about Prohibition, Lake Erie vineyards and smuggling. I appreciate their attention as I went over time (I was having a great time!). Barbara got us in the spirit of the evening by baking a DELICIOUS rum cake. Thank you, Barb for inviting me and thank you club members for chosing Rum Run as your February read. I truly appreciate your support.
Beautiful Amherst Public Library was host to my program on Lake Erie rum running and my book, Rum Run. I met some fantastic people and enjoyed seeing my neighbors who attended. What a pleasant surprise to see them. In the audience was the owner of Castle on the Lake restaurant in Lorain. The castle is in my book because it had a tunnel that ran from the lake under the building for smuggling illegal alcohol during Prohibition. The owner was as excited to have her place involved in my story as I was to meet her. We are making plans to meet with her book club at the castle where she will give me a tour. How awesome is that!
A big thanks to Melanie from the library who invited me and organized the program. She made it a wonderful experience.
