CIVIL WAR EVENT

I attended a wonderful and very educational event put on by the Brownhelm Historical Association about the everyday life of a Civil War soldier. This was not a reenactment but a program where visitors could stop at stations and attend talks about uniforms, drills, weapons, music, medicine, food and women's roles and activities during the Civil War. Participants were dressed in authentic clothing.

Civil War musician, Tim Krugman was kind enough to play some fiddle tunes my Civil War relative most likely played on his fiddle. I also got to taste food cooked over a campfire like the soldiers would have prepared and ate, and got to try a popular dessert made by women of that era- seed cake. It was good! A big surprise was meeting a reenactor whose great-great grandfather was in the same regiment and company as my great-great grandfather. Awesome!
